Happenstance
Wednesday; before and after.
A Year of Mornings and simply breakfast.
I am an avid fan of both of these works. While there is, admittedly, something slightly voyeuristic about the intimate glimpses of the every day, what is truly charming is the quiet beauty in them. These unstructured vignettes of domesticity are peaceful, restrained, and somehow elegant all at once.
Inspired by their efforts, I am starting a little project. Outside of my regular columns, for a week I will post a photo (maybe more) of compositions that spontaneously come together; moments as I come upon them, meals as we serve them. No styling, all in a standard format, minimal (if any) post production. No fidgeting or fussing.
It is a bit of whimsy on my part, but I hope you enjoy the peek nonetheless.
Maria and Stephanie's current project; a year of evenings, is already well underway.

You are truly truly talented. Your photographs are lovely!
Both of these are just perfect..and make me very hungry!
I'm a fan of both of those projects as well! I'm looking very much forward to your project!
ccsohwcThose are two lovely photos.
I doubt I could commit to documenting a year of my mornings. I just don't have the fortitude to face that kind of commitment. Plus, I suck at mornings.
I just wanted to say I love your plate :)
justfoodnow, you're always too kind. Thank you.
Tartelette, glad to hear you think so. I'll admit, the obsessive part of me wanted to fiddle with the salad leaves a bit, but that would defeat the purpose of this whole exercise!
Jessica, I can only hope to achieve a hint of the beauty that those projects capture. They are marvelous.
Thanks Dana; I can be a morning person, but I have to be somewhat prepared for it. like if I know I need to get up early, I'm fine. Wake me up unexpectedly, and it takes me a little while to get up to speed. If there is no coffee or tea around, that is a whole other story.
Either way, I appreciate their dedication.
I'm rather fond of it myself, Olga!
I love your food photography!
I love day-in-the-life pictures (and I really, really, really want to eat your breakfast...)
I'm such a fan of these sorts of photos. My favorite is the bread. I can't help it, I always fall for bread.
That is possibly the most gorgeous loaf of bread I've ever seen!
hello! we had some email trouble last year and are just now getting to our emails... thank you for featuring us on your blog. it was very kind. cheers!
Tara, I just stumbled across this post. I, too, love Stephanie and Mav's projects, and can't wait to seek out your other Happenstance posts. Thank you for the lovely images!
